I’m excited to announce the launch of Spencer Durrant Outdoors. For the past three years, I’ve had the chance to run The Modern Trout Bum, and it’s been a fun ride. But as I’ve (hopefully) grown into more of a sportsman, my passions have extended beyond fly fishing.
Conventional fishing, hunting, backpacking, and hiking have all come to dominate my time and attention much in the same way fly fishing has. It only makes sense, then, that I put the stories of my passions and pursuits in one place.
That’s what Spencer Durrant Outdoors is – a home for the stories and adventures I’m blessed to have. I’m not trying to position myself as an expert or authority on any subject. On my best day I’m an average angler and below-average hunter. My last two backpacking trips (as of this writing in Nov. 2018) have ended with altitude sickness and food poisoning. Just last week, I missed 14 shots while on an elk hunt (I’d unknowingly bumped the scope while falling down the mountain the day prior).
At the end of the day, I’m just another guy following his passion. I love telling these stories, crafting them into something to entertain fellow sporting enthusiasts who need a distraction during a long day at the office. A love of the outdoors creates instant camaraderie that transcends barriers, and that’s probably my favorite part of writing these stories. The men and women I’ve met thanks to fly fishing are some of my dearest friends.
Their stories are often more interesting than mine; or, perhaps more accurately, they’re such integral parts to my stories and adventures that, without them, I wouldn’t have anything to say.
Anyways, I’ve droned on long enough. Thanks for reading (if you’ve made it this far) and I hope you enjoy the rest of what you find here at Spencer Durrant Outdoors.
